马厂村位于莆秀路一侧，南邻疏港路，北面临海，北与后江村相接。村名的由来与明代抗倭时骑兵的驻地有关。[1]

地名由来[edit]

明代抗倭战役期间，此地曾是骑兵驻扎之处，村因而得名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年，马厂属五区（笏石区）马埭保与马埭乡。1952年归二十区（下塘）马埭乡，1954年改称埭江乡。1955年改隶忠门区，1957年又划为前运乡的一部分。1958年并入忠门公社埭江大队，1960年改隶前运公社马厂大队，1965年归东庄公社。[1]

1984年，大队转为村，隶属莆田县东庄乡。1988年划入秀屿镇，2000年归东庄镇，2002年归秀屿区。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2021年2月，马厂村入选「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单。2021年6月，村庄被认定为「2021年度莆田市中级版绿盈乡村」。2023年2月，村庄获评年度省高级版「绿盈乡村」。2024年1月，村庄被命名为「2023年福建省卫生村」。2025年3月，村庄被命名为「第七届全国文明村镇」。[1][2]
