后江村位于礼泉半岛中南部，在秀港大道以西，西面靠海，与城厢区隔湾相望。村分上游、下游两个自然村。[1]

地名由来[edit]

村前原为一处港湾，村后是海湾，湾中有四块礁石。群鸥在礁石上栖息觅食，故称“鸥江”。鸥江与后江方言读音相近，后来演变为今天的“后江”，沿用至今。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年，后江属五区（笏石区）江边保与江边乡。1952年改属二十区（下塘）江边乡，1954年改属埭江乡，1955年归忠门区埭江乡，1957年隶属东庄乡埭江。1958年为忠门公社埭江大队，1960年改称前运农社后江大队，1965年成为东庄公社后江大队。[1]

1984年，大队转为村，隶属莆田县东庄乡。1988年划入秀屿镇，2000年归东庄镇，2002年归秀屿区。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2020年9月，后江村入选阿里研究院公布的2020年淘宝村名单。2020年12月，村庄被确定为「福建省第一批高级版绿盈乡村」。2021年2月，村庄入选「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单。2021年10月，村庄入选2021年淘宝村名单。2021年11月，福建省爱卫办作出命名，后江村成为「2021年福建省卫生村」。2022年10月，村庄入选2022年淘宝村名单，同月经福建省农业农村厅认定为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」。[1]
