村子面海，村内有个小码头，码头附近的埕地前端住满了人家，于是叫埕头。[3]
历史沿革[edit]
1949年此地为六区北高埕头保，1950年设乡，1952年改属十七区北高的一个乡，1957年仍为乡建制。1958年成立笏石公社，1961年至1965年归公社管辖，1967年成为北高镇大队，1984年10月定名埕头村，2002年起属荔城区北高镇。[2]
