东埔余村是新度镇下辖的行政村，位于镇域南端，距镇中心约12千米，辖3个自然村。东面与秀屿区的笏石镇为邻，西南接城厢区的灵川镇。村中有中共莆田中心县委旧址。[1][4][5]

地名[edit]

早年此地东部有大片草埔，余氏族人迁来定居，故名东埔余。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

早年属感德乡，明清归五区安乐里，民国时为三区东亭乡的东埔保。新中国成立后归九区东埔乡，又经十一区东埔高级社与黄石公社管辖。1965年划归渠桥公社，设渠桥东埔大队；1984年起隶属渠桥乡，称东埔余村。此后归新度镇，2002年起属荔城区。[1][3]

名胜古迹[edit]

中共莆田中心县委旧址在尾厝5组。1934年9月，中共莆田中心县委重建，机关设在村中余瑞龙家，此后开辟新的活动据点。[5]

人口[edit]

截至2012年，全村有530户、2350人（百度百科）。[4]

文化[edit]

2021年11月，东埔余村被福建省爱卫办命名为2021年福建省卫生村。[1]
