吴江村位于西天尾镇，村名据传与唐代吴兴斩蛟的故事有关，此前称「吴刀」，后因村民沿溪畔建居改称「吴江」。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网所载，村名古称「吴刀」，与唐代吴兴持刀入水斩蛟的传说有关；后因村民沿溪畔建居，改称「吴江」。快懂百科所载的传说提到，吴兴斩蛟后在淤泥中寻回其所持之刀，遂以「吴刀」名其地。[1][2]

宋代属武化乡，明清属仁德里，民国时设吴江保，隶三区。新中国成立初期归二区吴江乡，1952年改隶七区吴江乡，此后于1954年划入十区。1957年组建吴江高级社，1958年改入莆田县涵江公社，设吴江大队，1961年转入西天尾公社。1984年底改为乡下的吴江村，1986年12月升为镇下的吴江村，2002年起属荔城区西天尾镇。[1]

2021年3月，村被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」；2022年10月，被认定为「2022年度莆田市中级版绿盈乡村」；2024年6月，入选「福建省第四批高级版绿盈乡村」名单；2024年9月，被认定为「2024年莆田市一村一品专业村」，主导产业为荔枝；2025年11月，被确定为「2025年度福建省一村一品专业村」，主导产业为荔枝。[1]
