南郊社区位于拱辰街道北部，地处莆田市区北面、九华山南麓的延寿溪畔，南邻拱辰社区，西与畅林社区相接。社区名称与古渠泗华陂有关。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

泗华陂的古渠道从社区南部经过，村民另开沟渠以疏通水源，「南郊」的名称由此音近而来。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

新中国成立后此地属一区南郊乡，并组建南郊高级社。1956年起归西天尾区管辖，1958年组成城厢公社的南郊大队，60年代初并入郊下公社，1965年改属城郊公社。2002年起划入拱辰街道，改称南郊社区。[1]

经济[edit]

辖区有生产制鞋、服装、珠宝、纸箱的企业，产品内销和出口兼有；土特产是荔枝、龙眼等水果。[2]

文化[edit]

社区内留存着「万兴祖社」，它始建于北宋开宝年间，据载早年曾为海神行宫，清乾隆三十八年重建。[2]
