畅林社区位于拱辰街道北部，东邻拱辰社区，北至南郊社区，面积约2.26平方千米。社区名称取自畅山、上林两地各一字。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋、元时期此地属崇业乡，明清时期属一区东厢；民国时期分属镇海乡、延寿乡和畅林保。新中国成立后先后归一区畅林乡、阔口区和十区，1957年属泗华公社，1965年至2001年属城郊公社，2002年起成为拱辰街道的畅林社区。[1]

2021年3月，社区被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

社区下辖的上林自然村有吴公庙，为莆田市文物保护单位，庙宇建于宋代，清代重建，主殿保存有宋代石柱和明代石碑。庙中供奉的吴兴，于唐代捐出家资修建延寿陂，并为守护陂堤献出了生命。[3][2]
