阔口社区位于莆田市荔城区镇海街道南部，距街道办事处约2公里，地处木兰溪口一带。[1][2]

社区名称来自地处木兰溪口、地形辽阔之意。[1][2]

社区现有居民820户、2820人，下辖阔口、墩口两个居住小区。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

宋、元时期此地为崇业乡所辖；明清时属一区东厢。民国时分属一区镇海乡与荔宁保。[1]

1958年，此地为城厢公社阔口大队，后改称阔口村，并设村委会。[1]

2002年起称荔城区镇海街道阔口社区，居委会于2015年12月迁至半桥路。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

玉湖祠在木兰溪边，南宋末年创建，前身是宰相陈俊卿的故宅。1993年，它被列为莆田市市级文物保护单位。[2]

文化[edit]

2021年3月，社区被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」；2024年1月，被命名为「2023年福建省卫生社区」；2024年12月，列入「2024年福建省儿童友好社区」名单。[1]
