镇海社区位于莆田市荔城区镇海街道，在福厦公路与城笏公路交叉处，东邻阔口社区，北靠拱辰街道。[1]

社区名称来自莆田城东门的旧称「镇海门」。当地居民沿城门周边聚居，因而得名镇海。[1]

人口[edit]

社区有2646户，约8600多人，面积约2平方千米。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋、元时期，此地为崇业乡所辖；明清时属一区东厢。民国年间属一区镇海乡，并隶城厢镇海保。[1]

1961年划入构东公社，1965年归城郊公社；1983年，城郊公社改隶城厢区，并改名城南乡。[1]

2002年2月，莆田县撤销，荔城区设立；城南乡改为镇海街道，镇海村更名为镇海社区，设镇海社区居委会。[1]

文化[edit]

2021年2月，社区列入「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单；同年，司法部、民政部公布其为「第八批全国民主法治示范村（社区）」。[1]

2024年1月，社区被命名为「2023年福建省卫生社区」。[1]
