赤港开发区全称莆田赤港华侨经济开发区，位于福建省莆田市涵江区，是2000年经福建省政府批准设立的省级经济开发区，由涵江区赤港管委会管理。[1][2]

开发区的前身是1960年成立的莆田赤港华侨农场，1997年改制组建为经济开发区；2002年调整区划时划入涵江区管辖。区政府的行政区划介绍把它与莆田高新区、商城管委会并列，称为区内的管委会。[1][2][3]

莆田赤港华侨农场成立于1960年1月，是开发区的前身。[1][4]

1997年7月，农场改制组建为经济开发区。2000年8月22日，福建省政府批准其为省级经济开发区。[1]

2002年5月，涵江区调整区划的同时，赤港经济开发区与原莆田县的七个乡镇一并划入涵江区管辖。[2]

经济[edit]

开发区总体规划面积为7.3平方千米。[1]

开发区以农业和非公有制经济为发展重点，是莆田高新技术产业开发区的一处科技工业园。[1] 2013年的一则报道称，农场已发展为莆田高新园区的核心区。[4]

管委会的主要职责包括招商引资、企业服务，以及归侨、难侨职工的安置。[1]

文化[edit]

2013年，国务院侨办公布全国「和谐华侨农场」示范单位名单，赤港华侨农场列名其中。据当时的报道，它是福建省唯一入选的华侨农场。[4]
