外坑村隶属福建省莆田市涵江区新县镇，位于涵江区北部偏远山区。村东与福清市东张镇接界，西邻白云村，南面与江口镇相连，北面紧挨泗洋村。全村下设8个自然村，分为12个村民小组。[1][2][3]

历史沿革[edit]

1930年12月，中共闽中特委在宣德宫建立苏维埃政权，这是闽中地区的第一个苏维埃政权。邓子恢、许集美等革命家都曾在村中生活和战斗。[2][3]

村中出了革命烈士陈天章，他在红军部队任政委时壮烈牺牲，故居位于芹山小组（见本镇条目）。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

宣德宫位于村中塘后自然村，始建于明代，清代后期重建，1998年修缮，是古建筑，也是革命旧址，2017年列为第六批莆田市级文物保护单位（见本镇条目）。[4]

外坑乡苏维埃政府纪念馆于2005年在村委会办公楼设立，展出历史图片约30幅，并陈列红军使用过的军号、梭标等物件。2005年8月，该馆被公布为莆田市爱国主义教育基地。[4]
