赤溪村隶属涵江区庄边镇，旧称东湖。明代村子东侧溪畔曾设冶炼场，铁渣倒入溪中，溪水变红，村名由此而来。[1]

村内赤溪自然村的龙山宫为清代宫庙，2015年被列入「莆田市第五批市级文物保护单位」。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

1950年村地为赤溪乡，1955年归白沙区赤石乡，1958年隶属石溪大队。1962年曾划入石溪公社，1964年又设赤溪大队。1984年成立赤溪村委会，1993年改为赤溪村并归庄边镇，2002年划入涵江区。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

龙山宫在赤溪自然村，又称龙山祖宫，始建年代不详。今见建筑是清道光十二年（1832年）重建的，近代又有修葺。宫殿由正殿和左右配殿组成，宫内主祀张公圣君。[3]
