庄边村是庄边镇的镇中心所在村，村名与镇名同源。据传，该地的山地与田地分属两个宗族，其中一族在此建田庄，坐地收租，地名由此而来。[1]
村内有庄边古窑址。村子2021年被命名为「2021年福建省卫生村」，2024年又被认定为「2024年莆田市一村一品专业村」，主导产业为玉米。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
宋元时此地是兴化县的辖地，明代改隶莆田县广业里。清末民国时，这里是莆田县第四区游洋乡下的庄边保。新中国成立后，它在庄边镇、高级社和生产大队等建制之间变动，1965年为庄边公社的庄边大队；1984年改称庄边乡下的庄边村，2002年以后属涵江区。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
庄边古窑址分布在龙潭山、五斗山和碗林山等几座山丘上，范围约十万多平方米，堆积厚二至六米。采集到的器物有盖罐、洗、青瓷碗、盘和碟等。[1]
