萍湖村隶属涵江区庄边镇。村名的由来，据传当地原有一片大湖，水藻丛生，被称为藻湖、萍湖；后曾改称源湖，书写时又恢复为萍湖。[1]

村子近年获得的称号有：2021年的「2021年福建省卫生村」、2023年入选「2023年福建省金牌旅游村」名单，以及2024年2月被确定为「第二批福建省乡村振兴示范村镇」创建对象。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

新中国成立初，萍湖一带称14区萍湖乡。此后这里几经并改，先并入前庄乡，1958年成为庄边公社前庄的一部分，1961年才单设萍湖大队。1984年改称源湖大队，直到1989年才定名萍湖村；村子在2002年由莆田县转入涵江区。[2]
