白沙镇的名称来自旧时的集市白沙铺。宋代此地设白沙务作为税务机关，「白沙」一名此后沿用为镇名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代此地属兴化县武化乡。1957年12月设立白沙乡，1961年6月改建为白沙人民公社，1984年10月改为乡建制，1988年10月改为白沙镇。白沙镇于2002年2月划归涵江区管辖。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

郑樵墓在白沙村尖峰尾山麓，是宋代史学家郑樵的墓。墓原在越王山下，南宋时丞相陈俊卿将其迁至现址，清代多次重修，墓碑刻有「宋枢密院编修夹漈郑先生之墓」。1985年公布为福建省文物保护单位。[2][3]

白沙祖宫位于白沙村，由白沙祖宫与昭惠新宫两座宫庙组成。祖宫创建于南宋绍兴十三年（1143年），清乾隆年间重建，1988年修葺，2000年被列为莆田县文物保护单位。昭惠新宫的现存建筑为光绪十七年（1891年）所建。[3]

文化[edit]

白沙镇先后获得多项荣誉。2012年1月，经福建省人民政府认定，白沙镇成为「第四批福建省历史文化名镇名村」；2021年3月，被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」；2022年10月，获福建省农业农村厅认定为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」；2024年6月，列入「福建省第四批高级版绿盈乡镇」名单。[1]
