莆江村位于草堂山脚下，东面与南面以山脊分水线为界，与福清的江兜、硋灶、桥尾等村相望。北面与大东村相接，两村相距约1公里。[1]

地名由来[edit]

村子原称郑坂，居民多为郑姓；明末清初，陇西李氏一支由莆田塔兜刘洋迁入。[1]

地理环境[edit]

草堂山是莆田五大名山之一，博雅地名网称宋代朱熹曾在此讲学。村落面积约2平方公里，有4个村民小组。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

民国时期村地属莆田县第三区霞源乡，新中国成立初归江口区大东保，其后与大东村共同经历多次改编。1961年析出另设郑坂生产大队，1984年改称莆江村，此后归涵江区管辖。[1]

2022年12月，村子获评「2022年福建省卫生村」。[1]
