后郭村在涵江区三江口镇北部，东侧与赤港农场相邻，是一个濒临兴化湾的沿海村庄。村名来历是旧时村民多为郭姓。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代，这里归唐安乡望江里管辖；明清两代改属二区望江里，民国时期为望江乡下的后郭保。[1]

1950年设集奎区后郭乡，1958年成为涵江公社后郭大队。1984年10月设后郭村委会，隶属涵江乡；1993年起归三江口镇管理。[1]

地理环境[edit]

村庄位于镇北部，西距镇政府约4公里，离区政府约5公里，村域面积约3.5平方千米。村东的临海高地「寨仔顶」上有烽火台遗址，明朝为防备倭寇而修，至今仍有遗迹。[1][2]

人口民族[edit]

博雅地名网记，全村有1286户、5156人，另设21个村民小组，下辖5个自然村，未注明年份。[1]

村中侨居海外的侨民约有4500多人。[1]

文化[edit]

1984年，村两委与学校董事会发起募捐，海外侨胞出资，1986年建成「莆田市涵江区华侨中学」。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

后郭东清寺在本村，始建于唐代，现存建筑为清光绪年间重修，属涵江区第八批文物保护单位。[3]

仙宫堂在本村，始建于清康熙年间，光绪二十三年重建，主祀保生大帝。[3]

仙元堂为南安白礁祖宫慈济宫的分宫，供奉以医道济世的南安人吴本，建于明代，现已列为区级文物保护单位。[1]
