社区沿用的名称是旧时的保尾铺，属涵江二十四铺之一。居委会成立后仍使用这一旧名。[1]

2021年3月，社区被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」；同年11月，被福建省爱卫办命名为「2021年福建省卫生社区」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年10月1日以后，这里先称保尾街。1959年时，它曾充当涵西街的保尾基点；1965年撤区并乡时，名称回到保尾街。文革期间一度叫红旗街，1970年并入楼下街，合组为团结街。1979年才设保尾社区居委会，2002年起属涵西街道。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

正极殿别名五帝庙，明代中期始建，清代经过重建，主祀玄天上帝。20世纪50至60年代曾用作小学校舍，90年代旧城改造时，在原址偏后的地方迁建，规模也有所缩小。它在莆田市第九批市级文物之列。[3]

善德堂的别称为善德崇孔堂，属涵江三一教的重要堂祠之一。它建于明末清初，近代又经修葺。[3]
