延宁社区的名称出自延宁宫。延宁原是涵江二十四铺中的一铺，隶属新义社；一只流传下来的花斗上刻有延宁宫新义社的字样，社区便以延宁为名。[1][2]
社区在涵西街道的东南侧，萝苜田历史文化街区的核心区即在这里。[2]
2021年2月，社区上榜「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单；同年11月，被福建省爱卫办命名为「2021年福建省卫生社区」。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
这一带宋代属延寿里的范围，明清仍在莆田县第二区的延寿里之内。民国时先归涵西镇联保，后归涵江镇，称延宁保。新中国成立后设延宁街公所，1956年一度并入涵中街，1957年复为延宁街。1958年公社化期间，街内农民被划出另行管理，居民则另设延宁居委会。1970年与青年街合并，称革新街；1980年8月重新分开，仍称延宁街。1984年6月涵江设区，1993年1月区划调整后划归涵西街道，2003年8月改名延宁社区。[3]
名胜古迹[edit]
延宁宫主祀妈祖。百度百科依其建造年代记为明天顺六年（1462年），博雅地名网则称始建于清初。宫在2004年被定为莆田市文保单位，宫中传承的妈祖蔗塔制作工艺于2007年被列入福建省非物质文化遗产。[4][5]
端明陡门为北宋蔡襄所创建，此后宋绍熙二年（1191年）、明宣德五年（1430年）、嘉靖二十一年（1542年）与万历二十九年（1601年）都有修缮。陡门在莆田市的市级文物名录上。[6][5]
东埕林氏民宅位于东埕尾，始建于明天启年间（1621—1627年），由太仆卿林道楠兴建，清代又经重建。原有建筑群为120间，如今只剩中部主体，它在市级文物名录之内。[5]
