青年社区旧属涵江二十四铺之一，原称清宁铺。因“清宁”与“青年”读音相近，社区才改名为青年。[1]

2021年3月，社区被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」；同年11月，被福建省爱卫办命名为「2021年福建省卫生社区」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代这里属延寿里，明清时仍属莆田县第二区的延寿里。民国时先归涵西镇联保，后改属涵江镇，称青年保。1949年10月1日以后称青年街，1980年设青年居委会。1993年起，青年社区居委会属涵西街道。[2]
