西黄村位于东海镇东部，属亚热带海洋性季风气候，村民使用莆田话。[1]

村名原称「东皇」，村民认为这个名字不吉利，又因村民建房多在西面，遂改名西黄。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

村中沈氏于清代由福建漳州迁入。1958年归入灵川人民公社，1963年设西黄大队。1984年10月，大队改为村民委员会，隶属灵川乡。[2]

1988年划入莆田县灵川镇，1999年改隶莆田县东海镇，2002年起属城厢区东海镇。[2]

文化[edit]

西黄村是妈祖文化的重要传承地，村内建有西黄妈祖文化公园。[1]

2021年11月，西黄村获评「2021年福建省卫生村」。2022年10月，西黄村被认定为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」，认定机关为福建省农业农村厅。[2]
