园头村位于华亭镇南部，东面与万坂村相邻，西面靠着南湖村，南依仰天山，北侧伴着木兰溪。[1]

村庄由前社、后社、过湖三个自然村组成，村名来自沙洲上的一座小石山。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

村名的来历：沙洲上有一座小石山，俗名「石头顶」，此地形如小山园，因而称园头。[1]

1949年属园头乡；1950年划入莆田县华亭人民公社，设园头生产大队；1961年改属西许公社园头大队；1968年设革命领导小组；1980年复为华亭人民公社园头生产大队。[1]

1984年改属莆田县华亭乡园头村委会；1986年改为华亭镇园头村委会；2002年起划入城厢区华亭镇，称园头村民委员会。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2020年11月，村庄被认定为「2020年度莆田市中级版绿盈乡村」；2020年12月，入选「2020年度福建省一村一品示范村」（大棚蔬菜）名单；2021年6月，列入「福建省第四批省级传统村落」名单。[1]

2021年11月，村庄获「2021年福建省卫生村」称号；2022年10月，被认定为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」；2024年6月，列入「福建省第四批高级版绿盈乡村」名单。[1]
