长基村位于东圳水库南部，祖先自唐代在此开基，此后村落沿石狗寨山麓延伸到烫斗桥一带。[1]

村落聚居地形狭长，村名由此而来。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

清代以前，村地属莆田县常太的长基乡。1941年至1949年9月间划入常太乡第十四区，称长基保；1952年至1955年归第十四、十五区的常太区管辖，1956年组建长基高级社。1958年设长基生产大队，隶属常太人民公社，1965年归常太公社。1968年改由革命领导小组管理。1982年至1984年间，村子隶属于长基生产大队；1984年12月设村委会。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2021年3月，长基村被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」；2024年1月，村子被命名为「2023年福建省卫生村」。[1]
