金川村位于常太镇西北部，村域以山地为主，产出枇杷、橄榄，其中毛竹与竹笋是主要收入来源。[1]

村名取自境内一种竹色发黄的毛竹，当地人称之为「金竹」。新中国成立后设立行政区，便取「金」字与「川」字为名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

新中国成立后，此地先在第八区渡里乡范围内，1952年划入第十五区，1954年改归第十四区，1955年并入党城乡，1957年改称党渡乡下的金川村。1958年组建常太公社金川大队，1961年划归渡山公社，1965年重回常太公社。1984年12月设金川村委会，隶属常太乡；1992年10月起归莆田县常太镇，2002年以后属城厢区。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

金川闽中工农游击队驻地旧址位于金竹坑自然村。1933年10月，中共莆田中心县委派郑金照返回常太，他组织农民开展抗租，并到金竹坑等村宣传革命道理。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2024年1月，金川村被命名为「2023年福建省卫生村」；2021年3月，被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」。[1]
