顶墩社区位于霞林街道，属城乡结合区。社区名称原作「澄墩」，因方言读音与“陈”“顶”相近，改称今名。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

早年此地是陈姓先人的墓地所在，墓地安置在下林山。后来在下林山开荒时，人们挖出一块大板砖，上面刻着「澄墩」二字。“澄”字过去与“陈”字同音，“陈”在方言里又与“顶”相近，老一辈人便把「澄墩」改称顶墩。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

早年此地称沟东村。1955年它改属阔口乡，1957年又成为人民公社的一部分。1958年起属莆田县的顶墩生产大队，1961年划入莆田县城南乡，成为该乡的顶墩生产大队。1968年，此处设革命领导小组；1980年，它成为城南乡下的顶墩自然村。1986年，它以城南乡人民政府所属村委会的身份存在。2019年5月，该地改设顶墩社区居民委员会，归霞林街道。[1][2]

荣誉[edit]

2024年1月，社区被命名为「2023年福建省卫生社区」。[1]
