莆糖社区位于霞林街道，属主城区。社区的名字来自早年设在此地的莆田糖厂。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

清代以前，这里属莆田县城郊。1958年，此处设立了「福建省莆田糖纸联合企业」，由省轻工业厅主管。1966年3月，糖厂改组，更名为「福建省莆田糖厂」，归莆田地区管理，自1993年起并入莆田工业区。2000年8月，糖厂因政策原因宣告破产。2002年，莆田市重新划定辖区，此地改归城厢区；2005年1月，莆糖社区居民委员会设立，隶属霞林街道。[1]

2021年2月，社区入选「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单。[1]
