筱塘社区位于莆田市区西南侧，辖区面积约2.46平方千米。社区名称来自旧时池塘四周的筱竹，社区内有莆田烈士陵园和杨持平烈士墓。[1]
地名由来[edit]
旧时社区内有一口池塘，四周长满筱竹，「篠堂」与「筱塘」读音相近，遂以「筱塘」为名。[1]
另有一说：据传南宋以前此地原名「月塘」，凤凰山顶笔尖山的石刻上留有「月塘界」的字样。后来人们以池塘群作为景点，塘中种满筱竹，名字便改作筱塘，并延用至今。[2]
建置沿革[edit]
民国时期此地为莆田县筱塘乡。1952年至1958年间，这里先后归莆田县第一区、莆田五星乡与莆田沟东乡管辖；1958年至1983年间，归泗华公社与城郊公社的生产大队。1983年起，设为城厢区筱塘居民委员会。[1]
荣誉[edit]
2004年至2005年，社区获「全国计生协会先进单位」称号；2006年获「市级文明社区」称号，2007年获「先进基层党组织」与「平安社区」称号。[1]
社区于2021年3月被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」；福建省爱国卫生运动委员会则在2022年12月确定其为「2022年福建省卫生社区」。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
莆田烈士陵园建在龙脊山上，占地2771平方米，大门上的「烈士陵园」四字为郭沫若手迹。[1]
杨持平烈士墓也在社区境内。杨持平生于1883年，卒于1921年，早年曾随黄兴投身武昌起义，屡建战功。[1]
