历史上此地位于大洋的西侧，村因此得名。[1]
建置沿革[edit]
1984年，此地为莆田县城郊乡人民政府下的洋西村民委员会；1986年改属莆田市城厢区龙桥街道，设洋西村民委员会。[1]
荣誉[edit]
2021年3月，村庄被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」；2021年10月与2022年10月，村庄两度入选淘宝村名单；2023年9月，被认定为「2023年莆田市“一村一品”专业村」，主导产业为白梨枇杷；2024年1月，村庄被命名为「2023年福建省卫生村」。[1]
