历史沿革[edit]
清代此地属同安县翔风里大嶝保，民国末年改称嶝西乡蟳崎保[1]。1950年划入嶝西乡，隶大嶝区；1958年归蟳崎大队，1961年分出嶝崎大队，归大嶝公社管辖[1]。
1984年村委会定名嶝崎，归大嶝乡管辖；2005年2月，村委会转为社区居委会[1]。
地名由来[edit]
崎口下原名蹽前，意思是岛上居民在退潮时从海路过海前的歇脚处。后来为便于看护滩涂生产，村子移建到崎口村前的一条大崎沟边，名为崎沟下，方言音近而写作崎口下[2]。
嶝头原为宋姓最早定居之地，又名上宋。村落形成之前，人们从同安蔡厝渡海，在此登岛，故称嶝头[2]。
