锦园社区位于集美区杏滨街道北部，福鼎山南侧，因锦园村而得名，下辖锦园、寨内、新村、后英、亭宅与后浦六个自然村，面积6.27平方千米。[1]

地名由来[edit]

此地早先称“港园”或“甲园”，因早年海港直通村口而得此名。后来为纪念林氏先人源自海沧锦里村，才改称锦园。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明代，此地属安仁里十六都的港园村，清代设锦园保。建国初期设锦园乡，后并入锦亭乡。[1]

1958年10月，此地为郊区灌口公社的锦园大队；1959年转由杏林农场管辖，1961年改由杏林公社统辖。1984年时它属杏林区杏林乡，村级单位为锦园村委会，1991年杏林乡改镇。2003年转隶集美区；2004年11月起归杏滨街道，2006年由村改为社区。[1]

人口民族[edit]

社区中林姓为大姓，郭、陈、王、梁等姓为少数。据博雅地名网的记载，明代初年，锦里林天福的六世孙林振盛迁居锦园，成为林氏的开基祖，其后代开发了锦园、寨内、后英三个自然村。[2]林姓人数为3850人，全村人口则在5000人以上（1995年）。[2]

经济[edit]

1989年此地设立台商投资区后，凭借邻近杏林火车站的交通优势，发展出物流与民营企业，物流业成为社区较具特色的行业。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

据区里公布的文物普查名录，登记在锦园的文物有锦园林氏宗祠（宋代、清代）、锦园林碧湖宅（清代）、锦园新大厝（清光绪年间），以及杏滨锦园宫（清嘉庆年间）。[3]
