蔡塘社区坐落在厦门岛东南一带，处在湖里与思明两区的分界上，总面积1.25平方千米。[1]
地名由来[edit]
社区名称因原蔡塘社而来。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
早年这里归福相保，抗战胜利后的1945年改为蔡塘保。新中国建立初期隶属禾山区的后坑乡，1958年10月起成为前线公社后坑大队的一部分。[1]
2003年底完成村改居，辖区内的湖边水库位于江头街道东部。[1][2]
人口民族[edit]
截至2009年底，社区的常住人口为1713人，流动人口达33552人。[2]
社会治理[edit]
社区的「蔡塘民间110」做法曾在全省推广；连续七届被福建省委、省政府授予「文明村」称号。[2]
