南山社区位于湖里街道南部，东至仙岳山隧洞口，西至华昌路，南面紧邻仙岳山，北至海天路。社区名因仙岳山北麓俗称「南山」而来，南山路也由此得名。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

社区在仙岳山北麓，当地俗称仙岳山为南山，道路因而命名为南山路，社区名随之而定。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

此地原为村里社与湖里社的农田。1989年，佳宝房地产公司在此开发「南山小区」和「佳丽花园」，共31幢商住楼；随后，其他房地产公司又开发了南山新村的12幢商住楼及128间店面。[1]

1991年5月，村里居委会分出华昌、南山两个居委会。[1]

社区占地0.58平方千米，辖区内有13个生活小区，总人口近万人。辖区内有湖里区影剧院、体育馆、湖里中学和湖里中心小学等服务场所。[2]
