湖里街道位于厦门岛西北部，属湖里区。它东与东南面的江头街道相接，南以仙岳山与思明区为邻，西南和西借海沧大桥通往海沧区，北面隔兴湖路、石鼓山立交桥与殿前街道相望。[1][2][5]

街道所在的湖里一带，是厦门经济特区的起点，区内至今仍有若干由村庄改制而来的社区。[1][6]

历史沿革[edit]

1981年8月，省、市同意取消湖里农业生产大队，改设湖里街道办事处，隶属开元区；1987年11月，改属湖里区。[1] 百度百科记设立时间为1981年9月，由禾山公社析设，两说不同，本条以区政府网站为准。[5]

1980年10月，国务院批准在湖里一带约2.5平方千米的范围内设立厦门经济特区，次年10月动工建设。1984年，邓小平同志视察厦门并在湖里题词，勉励特区把工作办得更快些、更好些。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

后浦拱庚堂又名后浦陈氏宗祠，位于后浦社，始建于南宋，清代重修，现存建筑为清代遗构。主体为抬梁式构架，有狮、象、螭龙等木雕，院前有一座八边形花岗岩池塘。该祠2007年列为厦门市涉台文物古迹。[3]

湖里杨氏宗祠建于清雍正年间，因拆迁，1992年迁建至湖里街47号，为闽南传统建筑。[4]

荣誉[edit]

据区政府网站，街道连续多届获评全国文明单位，并获全国法治社区建设示范街道等称号。[1]
