东屿社区隶属海沧区嵩屿街道，地处九龙江口岸，与厦门岛隔海相望。社区名称来自原为近海小岛的地形，博雅地名网引《厦门市地名志》称，此地原为环海小岛，后筑堰与陆地相连，因形得名「长屿」，方言谐音而成今名。[1][4]

社区的前身为东屿村。2009年改为社区，2010年起因海沧商务中心建设整村拆迁。[2][3]

历史沿革[edit]

民国时期，此地属金钟乡东屿保；1946年5月改属金霞乡。1958年8月划归厦门市，设东屿大队；1984年改为东屿村委会。2006年1月，海沧镇撤镇分设街道，此地为海沧街道东屿村。[3]

2009年东屿村实行村改居，改为东屿社区。2010年起，因海沧商务中心建设，社区整村拆迁，村部迁至水云湾小区。2015年海沧街道拆分后，东屿社区划归嵩屿街道。[2][3]

人口与组织[edit]

社区共有12个居民小组。总人口约5850人，此外还有约2000名外来人口。两委成员11名，党员191名，设6个党小组。[2]

经济与特产[edit]

东屿村世代以讨海、养殖水产为生，产业较海沧其他农业村多样。21世纪初起，村民陆续转行经商，村内曾形成东屿海鲜美食一条街，以土笋冻、章鱼、土龙等海鲜闻名。整村拆迁后，这些行业受到冲击。[2]
