吴冠社区位于海沧区嵩屿街道东北部，北靠山地，东北面临海，隔海与集美区、湖里区相望，南面毗邻海沧生活区。百度百科、博雅地名网等书写作鳌冠社区。[1][3]

社区于2006年初由村改居而来，面积约5平方千米，辖大社、霞美新村、庙兜、蔡岭4个自然村。[2]

社区于2006年初由村改居。社区内有老人协会、乡贤理事会和灵惠庙慈善会等民间组织。[2]

人口与居民[edit]

社区分为12个居民小组，居民1360户。全社区人口9832人，常住与流动分别为3585人和6247人。两委成员7人，党员199人。[2]

经济[edit]

居民靠水产育苗场、滩涂养殖、出海捕鱼和经营海鲜排挡谋生，也有人外出务工或从事海上运输。虾类育苗业始于1986年，居民以股份制办起育苗场，原有200多家，后因规划建设陆续征用。当地还有渔船100多艘、海鲜排挡8家。社区没有集体收入来源。[2]
