地名由来[edit]
社区名称由莲坂、西林两地名各取一字派生而来，沿用至今。[1]
地理环境[edit]
社区东临金尚路，西面为莲坂铁路，南侧是莲前西路，北侧与龙山相接。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
这块地方原为农田，清末属嘉禾里二十三都。抗战胜利后的1945年，它隶属禾山区莲坂保；此后1950年改属梧村乡，1954年又归莲坂乡。1958年底，它成为前线公社的一部分，此后公社改称禾山公社、禾山乡，1989年改为镇。[2]
1987年7月，此地并入莲前街道。1989年12月，龙山桥居委会由西林村析出；1997年10月，它又分设出莲东、莲西与东浦三个居委会。2001年8月，莲东被合进莲西社区，2003年5月卧龙片区也并入。[2]
人口民族[edit]
辖内单位中有厦门五中，另有金融机构等，个体店面288家。社区内常住人口7718人，此外流动人口4459人。[3]
文化[edit]
辖区内的普光寺和「金鸡晓唱」是社区的文化地标，博雅地名网称「金鸡晓唱」为厦门八大景点之一。[3][4]
2024年1月，社区获评「2023年福建省卫生社区」。[1]
