地名由来[edit]
社区因辖内的莲花北路而得名。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
此地原为农田，清末分属嘉禾里二十一都和二十三都的几个保。1937年前属禾山地区，随后归厦门市禾山区。抗战胜利后的1945年8月，这里成为吕厝保；1950年，它隶属江头乡。[2]
1985年12月，此地划归梧村街道，吕厝居委会的管辖范围在1987年7月改隶莲前街道。1987年底，吕厝居委会析出三处居委会，分别是观远里、玉亭里与和光里；1993年，流芳里与香秀里也相继析出。[2]
2000年6月，嘉莲街道接收上述五个居委会；次年8月，三者组成莲花二村社区，另两者组成莲花三村社区。2003年5月，莲花二村与莲花三村的流芳里归并，成立莲花北社区。[2]
文化[edit]
社区内有崇仙宫戏台，居民常在此看闽南地方戏和露天电影，老年居民自发组成合唱队、腰鼓队、秧歌队和舞蹈队，多次代表社区和街道出外表演。[3]
社区的服务品牌称为「爱心莲北」，设有关爱老年人的「融乐园」、关爱残疾人的「福乐家园」和面向外来流动人口的「闽南文化园」。[3]
