前埔社区的名字来自前村与前埔两个聚落。这两个聚落的先民是同安县潘涂村巷仔内的林姓渔户，他们来此开发，后来兄弟分居，哥哥住溪北称前村，弟弟住溪南称前埔[1]。
历史沿革[edit]
1955年起这里先后组建农业初级、高级生产合作社，1958年并入前线人民公社[2]。
1987年厦门调整行政区划，前埔村委会与周边村委会一并改归开元区，由莲前街道管理[2][3]。
2001年4月，前埔村分出莲薇社区和莲茂社区（后者2003年改名前埔北社区）；2003年6月底，这里完成村改居，原前埔村委会转为居委会，前埔南随即从本社区分出[2][3]。
2006年，开元区并入思明区，此后前埔社区归思明区莲前街道管辖[2]。
