历史沿革[edit]
此地在清代属同安县嘉禾里，清末一带归岐西与新和保管辖。其后的数十年间，这里曾隶属思明县或厦门市，抗战结束后又划入厦西与中心区。[3]
1948年，中心区分为思明与开元两区，此地属开元区的鹭江与开禾两保。1950年4月起改由街政委员会管理，鹭江与开禾各设一个街政；1955年3月，两地的街政改为街道办事处。[3]
1958年夏，两个街道合为公社；1966年8月又各自改称东风或延风公社。1979年恢复后，此地归厦禾街道管辖，下设厦禾上与小学路两个居委会，1994年另设湖西居委会。[3]
2000年底居委会改制时，此地并为小学路与湖西两个社区，湖西后于2005年并入小学路。[3]
荣誉[edit]
2025年12月，社区上榜「2025年福建省儿童友好社区」名单。2019年度，社区获「福建省消防安全示范社区」称号。[1][2]
