历史沿革[edit]
清乾隆年间，此地属岐西下保与新和保；清道光年间改属城内怀德社的岐西下保与附寨社的新和保。[3]
1948年起分属开洪、开营、开禾与新和等保，1950年4月划入打铁、开禾、营平与厦禾等街公所。1955年3月街道调整后，原区域分属鹭江与厦禾两个街道的居委会。[3]
2000年下半年，原先的居委会经合并改为社区，营平社区居委会由此组成；合并前的几个居委会包括道平、夹舨寮与开禾等。[3]
街巷与市场[edit]
社区内有纵横交错的九条巷，以及短小的十一间（巷），房屋多为低层楼房。夹舨寮原是制造远洋大船的船厂，船厂早已废弃，地名保留下来。[1]
社区内有历史悠久、规模较大的第八市场和开禾市场，是厦门市较为热闹的农贸市场。[2]
