嘉儒村位于三山镇西北部，辖8个自然村[1]。

地名由来[edit]

俞姓始祖定居此地后，因往返港头须涉水过海，难以通行，便立志造桥，取“下”“桥”二字之首，定名下桥。又传说古时一位秀才，文章得到主考官“嘉言懿行，儒雅端庄”的批语，村名取首字定为嘉儒[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

宋代属崇德乡化北里下都，明代属东隅化北里下都图4。1943年分设嘉儒东、嘉儒中等保，此后村中逐步分出各自然村[1]。

文化[edit]

村里曾先后获得福清市先进集体、先进基层党组织、平安村和先进民主法治村等称号，连续十年被福清市委评为「五星级」党支部；2008年获得福州市新农村建设示范村的认定，又被定为村务民主管理示范村[1]。
