杭下村在港头镇境内，村名来自先祖由杭州迁来的渊源，初称杭海，后改为杭下。[1]

地名由来[edit]

据博雅地名网，宋代时先人由杭州迁来，取「杭」字为村名首字。因村舍靠海，初称杭海，后为纪念先祖由杭州而来，改称杭下。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

早先为孝义乡化南里的鳌江境，明代改隶北二隅化南里。1910年时隶高山镇，1943年仍属高山镇，但设一保。1950年归第七区，1958年改属龙田公社，1959年设大队，1961年转入港头公社。1984年成为村民委员会，隶港头乡；1985年杭下村委会建立，下设二十二个村民小组；1992年乡改镇。[1]
