湖美村是城头镇下辖的行政村。唐代为黄氏聚居之地，村名原作黄尾；后来王、高、陈、李等姓陆续迁入。村北有一龙潭，溪水流经门前，雅称湖美。[1][2]
村内的龙卧禅寺始建于唐咸通五年（864年），1988年被公布为县级文物保护单位；寺内为闽中游击支队第5大队驻地旧址。[4][5][6]
历史沿革[edit]
宋代隶属感德乡方成里，1910年归海口镇；1943年设湖美保，隶属元龙乡。1950年归第二区五龙乡，1958年划入海口公社五龙大队；1959年另设湖美大队，1961年转属城头公社；1980年堑柄自湖美析出，1984年设村委会。[1][3]
