地理环境[edit]
乡境海域中有岛礁二十多个，除东庠岛外都无人居住。乡政府距平潭县城约14公里。[3] 东、西、北三面为丘陵，中部是沙丘与坡地。山间有天然的溪水，全乡却无天然河流。[1] 西面隔海与君山镇的小庠岛相对，南面与君山镇的王爷山遥遥相望。[1] 岛上的葫芦澳是天然良港，可以避风，客轮可通流水镇。[3]
百度百科所载面积为4.46平方千米，博雅地名网则作4.2平方千米，两处数字相差，表中以前者为准。[1][3]
历史沿革[edit]
民间传说中，海上旧有东洋、东庠两岛。东庠因命薄，奉命来沉岛的神仙一时口误，说成“沉东洋，浮东庠”，东庠因此留存至今。[2]
1958年东庠一带属平潭公社的流水分社；1961年另立东庠公社，1984年公社改为乡。[3] 乡内八个村的大队大多设立于1961年前后，1984年陆续改为村委会。[3]
经济[edit]
居民以渔业为生，有近海养殖、近海捕捞和远洋捕捞。[2] 乡内海产以紫菜、毛虾为主，另有带鱼、大黄鱼、马鲛鱼等，还产青缘锯蟹。[3] 岛上的商铺多集中在澳底村，鲎北村的村民要远行才能买到所需的物品。[2]
文化[edit]
通行平潭话，平潭话衍自福州话，普通话也通用。[2] 多数居民信奉道教，每月初一、十五都到庙里烧香。[2]
岛上只有一所幼儿园，设在南江村。[2] 初级中学于2006年与澳底村的中心小学合并，更名为东庠学校；此前各村原有的小学如今大多已经废弃，学生都到东庠学校上课。[2]
