赤锡乡位于福建省福州市永泰县西南部，地处大樟溪畔，乡政府驻赤锡村，距县城15公里。全乡辖15个行政村和1个林场，共有66个自然村。[1]
乡境东连岭路乡和城峰镇，西接梧桐镇，南与莆田市仙游县为邻，北隔溪与富泉乡相望。户籍统计为4722户、16287人。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
宋代此地属中和乡龙津里，元代分为第二十五、第二十六都，明清两代仍归中和乡龙津里。[2]
民国初年此地属中区，1936年划入第二区，1938年设赤埔乡；1952年以后仍属第二区，称赤埔乡。[2]
1958年梧桐人民公社分出赤锡、白叶两个管理区，1964年由梧桐公社析出，建成赤锡人民公社。1984年改设赤锡乡人民政府，名称沿用至今。[2]
2014年6月，环境保护部授予赤锡乡「2012—2013年度国家级生态乡镇」称号。[2] 2022年底，赤锡乡获福建省爱国卫生运动委员会认定，称「2022年福建省卫生乡镇」。[2]
地理环境[edit]
全乡面积102.4平方千米，森林覆盖率为72.48%。[1]
境内有大樟溪赤锡段、荷溪溪、玉锡溪和赤锡溪四条重要河道，四者流域面积合计117.6平方千米，长度共32.9千米。[1]
界竹口库区在境内连接荷溪、玉锡和赤锡三个库湾，水面面积10.5平方千米。[1]
乡政府距西和梧桐两处高速口约10千米，距永泰动车站12千米。[1]
经济[edit]
县政府网站列出的本乡特色农产品有双桂村的状元葡萄、蕉坪村的蓝莓和石竹村的草兔。[1]
博雅地名网记境内有紫砂陶、辉绿岩等矿藏，另有铀、铜、铁、银，以及铅锌矿。[2][3]
文化[edit]
博雅地名网记乡名的来历：相传溪边东西两山形如两条龙，隔溪相对；溪中一块红色圆石，似珠子置于双龙之间。夜间月光照上，圆石泛出银白，状如锡器，因此得名赤锡。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
2017年3月，永泰县人民政府公布第一批历史建筑名录，赤锡乡有两处列入：宋代的白云岩在东坑村，靠近与莆田交界处；明代的桂峰宫在下万村。[4]
