刘山村的村名由一段传说而来：相传古时此地遍布山岭，村中出了一位官员，朝廷派人削平山坡，只留下村东的一座山，原名“留山”，后因方言中“留”“刘”同音，改称“刘山”。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

解放初期，此地为二区东桥乡的辖地，1955年起属东桥区东桥乡管辖，1958年划入火箭公社的一个大队，1959年改隶东桥公社。1977年另立刘山大队；1984年东桥乡政府设立，村子成为该乡的一个村民委员会。[1]
