义由村位于东桥镇境内，村中山头上的宋元古窑址是义窑遗址的组成部分，村名由古时的“义窑”演变而来。[3][1]

历史沿革[edit]

村中山头上至今留有旧窑址百余处。据博雅地名网，此地在宋代是陶器生产的兴盛之地。相传古时五位不同姓氏的村民结为兄弟，合伙建造龙窑烧制陶器出售，因此称作“义窑”；后来因本地话中“窑”“由”读音相近，才写作“义由”。[1]

宋代属奉政乡安仁里。解放后，1950年归第二区溪芝乡，1954年改属朱山乡，1956年再归溪芝乡。1958年隶属火箭公社，1959年划入东桥公社，1963年独立为义窑大队。1984年东桥乡人民政府设立，义窑成为其属下的村民委员会；1991年撤乡建镇后，村子归东桥镇管辖至今。[2]

2008年，村民依政府造福工程迁居镇内。[2]2020年6月，村子被认定为福建省级乡村治理示范村；2021年1月，博雅地名网载其被评定为「福州市乡村振兴中高级版试点村」。[4][1]
