院前村在西兰乡以东，下辖8个自然村，村内耕地不多，林地与山地占了大部分。村名来自旧时聚居于此的院前里。[1]

地名由来[edit]

旧时后路一带分为三境，即当头厝、南坂前和院前里，其中院前里最为兴盛。设立大队时，院前里被简称为院前。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明至清末此地归梅溪里，民国时期隶属第三区，并入凤寿乡。1950年归第五区后路乡管辖，1958年成为飞竹公社下的后路大队的一部分。1961年，院前大队从后路大队中析出，隶属飞竹区后路公社；1965年划归西兰公社。1984年起设为村委会，属西兰乡。[1]

荣誉[edit]

院前村在2024年1月获评「2023年福建省卫生村」。福建省农业农村厅于2022年10月把院前村列为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」。[1]
