东湖镇位于福建省福州市连江县北郊，距县城约3公里，地方上称之为县城的“北大门”。[1]

沈海高速公路与X136县道穿过镇域，104国道和福州绕城高速也经过此地，交通便利。2020年12月，东湖镇获福建省爱卫办命名为福建省卫生乡镇。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

地名取自隋开皇十三年（593年）的一件旧事：邑中义士林尧为解决城北平原缺水受旱的问题，献出自家私田挖凿成湖。湖位于村落东面，镇名由此而来。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

东湖镇的建置几经变动。1992年8月由乡改设为镇；此前，1984年6月撤销公社建立乡，1972年3月社场分开设置，1963年6月组建东湖公社并社场合一。1961年1月，东湖、东塘、西庄三地从敖江公社划出，办起了国营东湖农牧场。[3]

更早的沿革，隋至清代这一带属宁善乡钦平上里，此前聚落叫作前湾境。民国初期归第一区；1935年的保甲编查把它划作东塘联保；1940年有了东祠乡这一建制；1944年又分给荷山乡与丹阳镇。新中国成立后，1949年划入第四、第五两区，1956年改归敖江区与丹阳区，1958年9月起由敖江、朱山两公社分管。[3]

地理环境[edit]

镇域东边与敖江镇相接，南面毗邻城关，北侧与丹阳镇连界，西侧则连着潘渡乡。全镇面积约45平方千米。镇里的村原分两个片区：一片有飞石、洋门、祠台、牛栏坪、岩下、天竹共六村，另一片有湖坪、东湖、西庄、东塘共四村。[1]

人口与民族[edit]

连江县人民政府网所载全镇总人口22715人，外来人口6724人计入其中。全镇有1个民族建制村和2个民族自然村。[1]

经济[edit]

镇里农业走“一村一品”的路子：东塘水蜜桃与“东湖早”枇杷是主推的两个品牌，岩下仙人掌与洋门桑叶茶属特色品牌，西庄草莓、牛栏坪茶苗与祠台橙柚同属基础品牌。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

「连江光复会旧址」位于东塘村，是一座吴氏宗祠，建筑朝北，从门厅起经天井进入厅堂，厅后再接一进天井与神殿，占地808平方米。博雅地名网称其始建于清乾隆年间，百度百科则作清道光年间。辛亥革命前，这里是由吴适领头的连江光复会成员秘密联络的地点。2001年1月20日，福建省人民政府把它定为省级文物，属第五批。[2][4]

「原东湖乡苏维埃政府旧址（东湖郑氏宗祠）」是土地革命时期的遗址，2018年9月被列为连江县县级文物保护单位，位于东湖村，详见该村条目。[5]
