传说岛上有一岩洞南北贯通，船只可由其中通行，村名由此得来。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

始建于清朝初期。1958年，村属琯头公社的川石大队；1984年，村委会得以成立。[3]

概况[edit]

据博雅地名网，川石岛是闽江口第三大岛，森林覆盖率较高，岛上还设有福建省举重训练基地。[1]

村内公共服务设施以祠堂和庙宇为主，对外交通只能依靠航运。[1]

川石岛不在琯头镇镇区范围之内。[4]
